Aurora C. I. Johnson Elementary School issued the following announcement on Sept. 13.
East Aurora High School’s DECA program will host the 7th annual Car Show to benefit their Forgotten Teens Project on Saturday, September 28 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The event takes place at Goody’s Restaurant in Aurora. Registration ends at 1 p.m.
The public is invited to come out and enjoy music, food, and cars.
DECA started the Forgotten Teens Project nearly 20 years ago as a way to help fellow Tomcats enjoy their holidays. Students who are experiencing homelessness are anonymously presented with Christmas gifts purchased through funds raised by East Aurora DECA members as a way to remember the season is about giving. Last year DECA was able to provide 60 VISA gift cards valued at $60 each.
“This is always a great event for those with a vehicle they like to show off,” said DECA advisor Mark Lyons. “For all gear heads, car enthusiasts, and those who’ve invested a lot of time into their ride … this event’s for you.”
Lyons added that all years, wheels, makes, models, conditions are welcome to the show.
Goody’s Restaurant is located on the corner of North Farnsworth and East Indian Trail. Parking for show participants will be available in the field next to Goody’s. Enter through the Old Second parking lot on Reckinger Road.
The day includes music, food and prizes. Gift items will be available to the first 50 vehicles registered, and awards will be presented for the Top 10, truck, alumni and Best of Show. A special holiday-themed award will also be presented—any holiday theme, including but not limited to Halloween or Christmas. For raffle prizes, winners do not need to be present to win.
Registration is $10 per vehicle, and spectators are welcome to attend and be eligible to win prizes from local businesses as well as the Chicago White Sox.
