Geneva High School is being quiet on an accusation that it shut down a patriotic cheer coming from the school’s cheer section.
A local resident says school administrators of shutting done a patriotic chant for being too political.
“Geneva High School, 9/23-24/2021: The Principal requested its student cheering section - the GHS Blue Crue’ - scrap it’s chosen theme, ‘USA,’ because other area principals agreed with him that patriotism is too divisive & would make the event political. FF to teacher,” Sara Forster, from Naperville, said on Twitter.
The school did not respojnd to a request for comment from the Kane County Reporter.
The district has become a hotbed of scandal in recent weeks and months.
On Monday. 45-year-old French teacher Toni Tortorello-Allaway resigned after she drew consternation from across the region and state for aiming a profanity-laden TikTok post at a student's grandmother for allegedly violating mask policy at the school and “disrespecting” the black national anthem, according to the Kane County Reporter.
The teacher’s resignation was accepted by Board 204 after her notice was included on the Oct. 25 board meeting agenda.
The dustup even drew the attention of GOP gubernatorial candidate Gary Rabin who called for Tortorello-Allaway’s resignation. Rabine is a mask-choice advocate.
