Toni Tortorello-Allaway says she warned a "bitch" Glenbard South grandmother who wouldn't wear her mask properly during a school indoor choir concert Thursday that she wouldn't tolerate such insubordination.

"I’m like, mmmm, we have a mask mandate here in the state of Illinois. An indoor mask mandate," said the 45 year-old Geneva H.S. French teacher, who was attending the concert with her family. "I’m like, am I going to have to fucking throw down with this bitch. Fuck around and find out. I will throw down with you."

And "throw down" Toni did, 2021-style. 

Tortorello-Allaway, who lives in Lombard and has two children at Glenbard South, posted a three minute Tik-Tok rant Thursday evening, excoriating the unnamed grandmother and her extended family over not only masks but also for disrespecting the so-called "black national anthem," with which the choir sang in an ode to the Black Lives Matter movement.

"To close the show, our wonderful choir director has all the choir members come back on stage so they can sing “Lift every voice” and he announces that its the “Black National Anthem. What do you think asshole grandma did? She was so appalled, she actually got up and walked out, while they were singing," Tortorello-Allaway said. "You aren’t even trying to hide what a racist piece of shit you are, are you. How dare you act like this? Fuck you!"

Tortorello-Allaway said she was selling tickets at the door for the concert when she first confronted a Glenbard South alumnus "from a couple of years ago" attending with his grandparents and his mother.

"I remember him being kind of a conservative asshole back then," she said. "Grandpa and grandma show up and they aren’t wearing masks. I deal with this all day long at school. I’ll fucking throw down. They bitch and moan about having to wear their masks and 'we’re living in fear' and all this crap. Whatever."

"And I stare at them and I go 'are you kidding me right now? We’re at a high school choir concert. Is this where you really want to start shit and be a fucking asshole?'”

In the concert, Tortrello-Allaway was seated next to the alumnus and his family. She said that's how she noticed their continued flaunting of the mask rules, which she quickly reported to Glenbard South authorities.

"I walk in and sit with my family and this fucking family is sitting behind me and I’m like mother fucker. And I see that good ole’ grandma is wearing the mask literally hanging off her ear. Not even under her chin. Hanging off her ear," she said. "So I get right back up. I go find one of the school personnel that’s on duty there. I tell him.  And of course they go and make an announcement that everyone needs to put their masks on and put them on over their nose and mouth properly if we want to to continue having in person music concerts."

"So old bitty grandma huffs and puffs and she’s all pissed off."

Tortorello-Allaway, an Elmhurst native, taught at Montini Catholic, Riverside-Brookfield, Wheaton-Warrenville South and Hinsdale Central high schools before taking a job at Geneva H.S. in 2018. She earns $67,076.

Her husband, Dan Allaway, is an assistant principal at Rupley Elementary School in Elk Grove Village. He earned $145,196 in 2020 according to school records.

DuPage County Board member Lynn LaPlante Allaway (D-Glen Ellyn) is Tortorello-Allaway’s sister-in-law. 

LaPlante, elected in 2020, is running for chairman of the DuPage County Board in 2022.

I just got back from my daughter’s choir concert and I’m a little infuriated. I’m a little fired up about something that happened tonight.

First of all, I was really excited to have a choir concert, in person, after the last year and a half that we’ve had.

Plus, my daughters are a senior an a freshman. This is the first time they are literally going to be sharing the stage singing together in several years. So I was very, very excited about this night.

The choir director asked me if I would handle ticket sales at the door. I of course obliged and said yes absolutely. So no problem.

I’m working the table, and I notice this (Glenbard South) alum who graduated a couple of years ago walked in with his grandparents and his mother.

I remember him being kind of a conservative asshole back then.

Grandpa and grandma show up and they aren’t wearing masks.

So the concert’s going on. It’s beautiful. Whatever.

Grandma has the fucking mask under her chin like the shithead that she is, right.

In one of the songs that my daughter is singing in her concert choir, they sing a line about fighting misogyny and racism.

All of the sudden, I hear this grandma lean over to her daughter, the mother of one of the kids, and say “did they just say that?”’

Like- she was actually upset about the lyrics.
