CITY OF BATAVIA: Temporary Cemetery Modifications to Operations

Cemetery

City of Batavia issued the following announcement on March 21.

In light of the constant updates from government officials and statements from the Center of Disease Control (CDC) regarding the COVID-19, the City of Batavia Cemeteries would like to inform you of the current conditions involving burials and burial planning.

The burial of the dead is a corporal work of compassion and a very important part of our physical, spiritual and emotional well-being related to the loss of a loved one. We will continue to work to serve you during this current environment by following these guidelines:

Cemetery Interments

Interments should proceed with immediate family members only, not to exceed more than 10 people (this number is per CDC guidance as of Tuesday, March 17, and is in effect until further notice).

It is strongly recommended that no one from a vulnerable population attend.

Social distancing (six feet) should be observed by all attendees and staff.

It is strongly recommended that the interment of the body be done at the gravesite; again, with immediate family not to exceed 10 people.

Offices

Our offices at Public Works will be open to assist with the selection of burial spaces for AT NEED situations or situations where a death is imminent.

Our office will NOT be open for any other business including, but not limited to, genealogies, grave purchases that are NOT at need, Memorial Permits, etc.

The conditions in which we may operate are constantly changing so please check our city website often for updates.

We can help with many questions, issues and concerns that you may have, over the phone or through information posted on our website, as well. Please feel free to visit our website or call prior to coming out to the cemetery. Visit www.cityofbatavia.net or call us at 630.454.2400 during normal business hours of Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
