City of Elgin issued the following announcement on Nov. 15.
Despite what your old Elgin recycling magnet says, plastic bags do NOT belong in your curbside recycling cart.
Please do NOT place any plastic bags, even bags filled with recyclables in your bin. Bags can get caught in recycling machinery and shut down an entire plant! Instead, empty recyclables into the cart and dispose of bag OR bring bags to a participating store that recycles them (Target, Jewel, Wal Mart for example).
