Algonquin Historic Commission receives request for its input on the Main Street Streetscape Plan

Algonquin Historic Commission met Saturday, Nov. 19.

The Algonquin Historic Commission fosters the research, development and preservation of the village's history for current and future generations. Commission meetings and workshops are held at the Historic Village Hall, 2 S. Main St.

ALGONQUIN HISTORIC COMMISSION MINUTES OF WORKSHOP MEETING November 19, 2016

CALL TO ORDER - ESTABLISH QUORUM:

Meeting called to order at 8:30 a.m.

PRESENT:

Chairman Jolitz Members: Purn, Thompson, Zange

VOLUNTEERS:

Pat Zange, Connie Jacobsen

VISITORS:

None.

ACTIVITIES:

This session concerned a continuation of sorting donations from local residents, filing, and research.

Chairman Jolitz continued organization and storage of accessioned items, and maps.

Chairman Jolitz and Member Zange also discussed their plans for the Commission's new display exhibit at the Main Library on Harnish Drive and the signage for that display.

Member Purn also continued organization of the Commission's historic photograph and postcard collections.

Chairman Jolitz and the Members also discussed communications of last several days from Village staff on several various Village-related issues and projects, including: (1) placing the Commission's workshop and meeting dates on the Village Calendar again; (2) the Village Downtown Streetscape Plan / improvement project ref a request just received from Mr. Robert Mitchard, Public Works Director, for the Commission's input regarding improvements contemplated for the Village's Main Street Streetscape Plan surrounding the historic structure located at 302 S. Main Street (the Christian Geister House), which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places; and (3) Member Purn's recent inquiry to the Village Board, and the follow up e-mail summary response received from Russell Farnum, Community Development Director, regarding restoration of the historic "Shooting Star11 statue and projects the Commission might undertake to assist with that restoration.

Member Thompson also worked on transcribing the monthly meeting and workshop minutes.

ADJOURNMENT:

Moved by Member Thompson to adjourn. Motion seconded by Member Zange. Voice Vote: All Ayes. Meeting adjourned at 12:00 Noon.
