Construction is underway on the Safe Routes to School sidewalk improvements. The planned locations for the project include Republic Road, Maple Lane, Webster Street, and Blaine Street. The project's purpose is to enhance pedestrian safety and accessibility along key corridors in the community.

Specifically, work will occur on the west side of Republic Road from Maple Lane to Illinois Avenue, and on the east side from Illinois Avenue to McKee Street. On Maple Lane, the improvements will cover the south side from Van Nortwick Avenue to Republic Road. Improvements on Webster Street will take place on the north side from South Prairie Street to South College Street. Lastly, on Blaine Street, work will extend from mid-block at South Harrison Street to the west-end trail on the north side.

The city has communicated with residents affected by the construction through letters and other means, to inform them of the impacts the project may have on their properties.
