State Representative Dan Ugaste (R-Geneva) has joined with fellow Republican lawmakers in a lawsuit against alleged constitutional violations by Democrats in Illinois. The legal challenge, filed in Sangamon County Court, accuses the Democratic Party of breaching the Three Readings Rule during the recent Spring Session.
The lawsuit highlights Senate Bill 328 as a primary example of this violation. The bill reportedly did not undergo the required three readings before being passed. Republicans argue that this rule is essential for maintaining transparency and public trust. They are urging Governor Pritzker to veto SB 328 to prevent it from becoming law.
“Democrats’ rule-breaking has become increasingly egregious,” stated Rep. Ugaste. “The Three Readings Rule is not a suggestion; it is a constitutional mandate. Illinois Republicans will not tolerate this abuse of power by Democrats merely because they have one-party control in Springfield; we are standing together to fight for transparency on behalf of all Illinoisans.”
Senate Bill 328 proposes significant changes to Illinois' judicial system by allowing out-of-state plaintiffs to sue businesses in Illinois courts, regardless of where incidents occur. Critics argue that the bill could lead to increased legal abuses and deter businesses from operating in the state.
