Scott's Law requires drivers to move over and slow down when passing vehicles

Scott's Law, also known as Illinois' Move Over law, mandates that drivers must relocate to an adjacent lane and reduce speed when passing vehicles with activated hazard or emergency lighting. This regulation aims to enhance the safety of first responders, road workers, and other motorists.

Efforts to educate and enforce compliance with Scott's Law have been ongoing for twenty years, yet noncompliance remains an issue.

"Despite two decades of education and enforcement, drivers still failing Scott’s Law," reads a statement from Capitol News Illinois.
