Ruth Van Sickle Ford: Born August 8, 1897
Ruth Van Sickle Ford was born on August 8, 1897, in Aurora, Illinois. She studied at the Chicago Academy of Fine Arts, where she was influenced by artists George Bellows and John Carlson. Ford's paintings, often depicting social realism and landscapes, were exhibited across the United States, the Caribbean, and South America. She became the owner and director of the Chicago Academy of Fine Arts in 1937, making significant contributions to art education. Ford also designed the unique "Round House" in Aurora. She passed away on April 18, 1989. Her works remain in numerous public and private collections, including the Smithsonian Institution.
