Senator Donald P. Dewitte | Illinois State Senator

Senator Don DeWitte is seeking input from constituents on pending legislation as the committee deadline approaches in Illinois. DeWitte stated, "In my initial review of legislation still waiting to be heard, I decided this was a good time to seek input from my constituents." He has created a survey to gather opinions on pending legislation and bills that have passed in recent years.

In response to Governor JB Pritzker's non-citizen welfare policies, Senator Don DeWitte has cosponsored legislation aimed at increasing transparency on state spending related to migrants. Regarding Senate Bill 3170, DeWitte explained that it would require the Illinois Department of Human Services to prepare an annual report identifying all state spending on services and resources for migrants. He emphasized the importance of transparency, stating, "The people of Illinois deserve to know how much of their tax dollars are being spent on migrant services, especially when the Governor is trying to raise their taxes by $1 billion."

Senate Republicans, including Senator Don DeWitte, have pushed back against a gerrymandered Chicago School Board map favored by Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson and special interest allies. DeWitte highlighted concerns about transparency in the map process and voiced support for maps drawn by independent commissions rather than politicians influenced by special interest groups.

Moreover, March is Women's History Month, a time to acknowledge and celebrate the achievements of women. Senator Don DeWitte reflected on the significance of women in Illinois history, mentioning Lottie Holman O’Neill, the first woman elected to the Illinois General Assembly, and former Senator Christine Radogno, the first woman to serve as Minority Leader in the Illinois Senate Republican Caucus. DeWitte encouraged celebrating women-owned businesses in Illinois as part of the month-long commemoration.
