Fire at 530 S. 16th Street leaves home uninhabitable, damage estimated at $15,000

The St. Charles Fire Department responded swiftly to a structure fire at 530 S. 16th St. in a single-family home on April 19, 2025. The report came in around 6:54 p.m. The first unit arrived promptly, within five minutes of being dispatched, and reported light smoke but no visible flames.

The fire was reported by a passerby who alerted the homeowner and called 911, as the homeowner was not present. The fire was quickly extinguished by the first fire companies on the scene. Firefighters then conducted checks for any further fire spread and carried out salvage and overhaul operations. The estimated damage to the property is approximately $15,000.

Fortunately, there were no injuries to civilians or firefighters during the incident. Multiple agencies assisted in responding to the incident, including the St. Charles Police Department, the St. Charles Emergency Management Agency, and fire departments from Geneva, Batavia, Elburn, North Aurora, and South Elgin. The cause of the fire remains under investigation, and the residence is currently uninhabitable.
