The Montgomery Public Works Department will conduct its fall bulk brush collection for residents during the week of October 6. Crews will begin work on Monday and make a single pass through each neighborhood in the Village, aiming to complete the process within one week.
Residents are advised to stack all brush neatly in the parkway by Sunday, October 5, as collection begins promptly at 7 a.m. The Village urges everyone to review the guidelines for bulk brush pickup to help maintain efficient service.
This program is available only to residential properties within the Village of Montgomery and does not include commercial, industrial, non-residential properties, or unincorporated areas such as Boulder Hill. Brush must originate from the property where it is placed; material from other locations will not be collected. Brush may be moved into the parkway up to one week before pickup.
All brush should be stacked neatly by Sunday evening before collection starts. Piles blocked by parked cars or put out late after crews have passed will not be picked up, and homeowners will then need to dispose of them themselves. The Village instructs residents to pile brush in one direction with cut ends facing the street and avoid bundling with ties. Piles should not exceed three feet in height or obstruct sidewalks and driveways.
Smaller debris such as twigs and leaves should go into stickered yard waste bags for removal by the regular garbage hauler. The Bulk Brush Program is not intended for large limbs, logs, or stumps resulting from major tree removal projects.
Acceptable branches must be between 1 inch and 4 inches in diameter and at least 3 feet long. Items such as bushes with roots attached, vines, lumber, plywood, metal objects, concrete, or stone are not permitted and will result in non-collection if found mixed with brush piles.
If guidelines are not followed, a tag explaining why items were left behind will be issued. Residents can adjust their stacks for weekly collection by LRS Recycling if necessary.
LRS Recycling provides weekly brush pickup on regular trash days under different rules: bundles must be tied with twine, no larger than 2 feet wide by 2 feet high and up to 4 feet long or 50 pounds per bundle; each bundle requires a red LRS yard waste sticker. Residents may place unlimited stickered yard waste bags and bundled brush at the curb through November 30. Additionally, two free weeks of yard waste bag collection are offered each year; this fall’s sticker-free period runs from November 10-21.
For questions about the Bulk Brush Program, residents can contact the Public Works Department at 630-896-9241. The service operates twice annually in spring and fall for Village residents only (excluding unincorporated areas). Collection times may vary depending on weather conditions and participation rates.
