At the Sept. 12 meeting of the Kaneland Board of Education, the board announced the appointment of a Kaneland senior to be its first student ambassador for the district.

"I'm so excited to be put into this role," Lindsey Yost told the board. "And I really just want to give a good perspective of District 302. And I have been in District 302 since kindergarten and now it’s my senior year. So I'm proud to be a Knight for sure."

Superintendent Dr. Todd Leden said the board wanted to have a student representative to better understand students' needs. Board members went through the application and interview process at the beginning of the 2022-23 school year.

Lindsey was praised in her letters of recommendation from her peers and teachers. She was promoted as a strong student, a good influence on her peers, a qualified individual and a very mature high school student. One said that there was no better candidate.

She has been involved with student council for three years, has spent four years as a cheerleader, four years in marching band, and two years in the National Honor Society. Lindsey has volunteered at the hospital and for meals on wheels for many hours on multiple occasions, and she works as a waitress.
