City of Aurora Youth Council met April 20

City of Aurora Youth Council met April 20.

Here are the minutes provided by the council:

● Call To Order 4:49 PM 

● Roll Call: 10 present, 3 absent 

● Others Present: Cindy our new UIC junior visitor 

● Approval of March 2022 Minutes: 7 yays, 0 nays, 3 late arrivals. 3 not  present. Motion passes 

● Public Comments: N/A 

● Agenda Items (listed) 

● Announcements 

○ Youth and Family Resource Fair - April 21st, 6-8pm at Prisco Center.  Volunteers needed.  

❖ If possible notify via email to Betty or Simon that you will be  able to volunteer for tomorrow beforehand, volunteers are  

needed  

● Elections 

○ Communication Liaison Opportunity For AYC Social Media Accounts 

❖ Sarah Ramos was elected to be the communication liaison

○ Public Relations Director 

● Complete Google Survey Regarding Goals within the AYC 

❖ Distributed to those present to complete 

● Possible Kick Off To Summer Community Event 

❖ Engagement event to gather locals with food being provided to  attendees  

● Neighborhood Clean-up co-lab 

❖ Future possible community clean up events that Simon will inform  us on to properly coordinate a date to attend  

● School Reports 

❖ Pravi spoke about more mental health day opportunities and  incorporating this topic into our curriculum to properly aid teens  with advice and life skills  

❖ Gauri touched about ending the stigma when it comes to fear  mongering regarding health teachers teaching sex education and  mental health, a more mature approach should be taken to not  frightened young adults on touchy subjects without giving them  misinformation in order to scare them 

❖ Lillian brought the idea of creating a zen space in our schools to  catch a break from all the commotion and stress at school were you  have the liberty to worship your own religion without feeling uncomfortable or overwhelmed a environment for individual  students to reflect on life 

❖ Sarah spoke about integrating resources to adolescents so they can  be well educated on mental health as well as working towards  breaking down barriers put in place by the education system  

❖ Betty gave us background knowledge about her working with  different programs to improve the role stress plays in schools with  staff, healthcare workers, students etc. providing assistance to counselors with professional help  

● Adjournment at 5:32 PM. 10 yays, 0 nays
