City of Aurora Hispanic Heritage Advisory Board met Feb. 7.

Here are the minutes provided by the board:

• Call to Order

o The meeting was called to order by Tony Martinez at 6:05 p.m.

• Roll Call

o Members Present: Blanca Saavedra, Brian Moreno, Carolina Ocampo, Claudia Urrutia, Gil Rios, Karina Suarez-Darden, Lorena Labastida, Maria Jurado, Melissa Sosa, Rafael Martinez, Yahayra Argueta.

o Members Absent: Laura Ayala

• Agenda Items

o Member and City Staff Introductions

▪ Members and city staff introduced themselves. Each member provided some of their backgrounds and why they wanted to be part of the board.

o Overview of Member Guidelines

▪ The city liaison gave each board member a Member Guideline packet which outlines expectations for each member.

o Election of Officers

▪ Board members had a consensus to hold off on the election of officers until the next meeting in March.

o Calendar of Events Discussion

▪ Día De Los Niños

• The board will check to see if the Vaughn Center is available for a potential date if the event were to be held.

▪ Scholarship Breakfast

• Last year, there was a scholarship ambush to award the recipients. Looking at possibly doing the same thing this year.

▪ Fiestas Patrias

• Successful event in 2019. The board will discuss possible location change and whether to have a parade this year. City Liaison will provide the board with the budget allocation for Fiestas Patrias this year.

o Monday, March 7, 2022, 6 p.m. 5th Floor City Hall

• Adjournment

o Meeting adjourned at 6:59 p.m.
