A Geneva High School teacher has resigned after the Kane County Reporter outed her for a rant against a student’s grandmother.
Toni Tortorello-Allaway, 45 year-old Geneva H.S. French teacher, related threats she wanted to make to a student’s grandmother in a TikTok post for not wearing a mask.
“I’m like, am I going to have to fucking throw down with this bitch. Fuck around and find out. I will throw down with you,” Tortorello-Allaway, said in a TikTok post.
Tortorello-Allaway has resigned in the aftermath of her comments being released.
District 304 did not respond to a request from the Kane County Reporter for an interview on the matter and would not confirm Toni Tortorello-Allaway’s employment status.
At its Oct. 25 meeting the board’s agenda noted Tortorello-Allaway had resigned.
After the profanity’ laced tirade Tortorello-Allaway closed her social media platforms, but the damage had been done.
After the rant became public, a change.org petition calling for her removal was started.
The teacher’s behavior even caught the attention of Illinois GOP gubernatorial candidate Gary Rabine.
“Like most Illinoisans who watched this video, I am disturbed and disgusted that these ugly and dehumanizing words came from a taxpayer-funded public-school teacher," Rabine said in a press release. "Toni Tortorello-Allaway should be nowhere near children, much less instructing them.”
The Elmhurst native made $67,076 per year. She previously taught at Montini Catholic, Riverside-Brookfield, Wheaton-Warrenville South and Hinsdale Central high schools.
Rabine called on the school board to fire the teacher before she quit.
“If she worked in the private sector, Tortorello-Allaway would have been fired immediately," Rabine said. "Illinois school board members are charged with holding district teachers to the highest standards. We should demand no less for our children. Children must become the priority again in our K-12 system – not guaranteeing jobs for self-absorbed, profane adults.”
Geneva High School has over 1,800 students and nearly 400 teachers.
