Judson University issued the following announcement on Oct. 12
Judson University’s Theatre Department is proud to present Hello Dolly! as its fall production the last week of October. The show will take place at 7 p.m. Thursday-Saturday, Oct. 28-30, with a matinee performance at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. All performances will be in the Thulin Auditorium in Thompson Hall at Judson University (1151 N. State St., Elgin).
The musical is set in the 1890s. In New York City, the bold and enchanting widow Dolly Levi (Anaiah Wilson-Poston) is a socialite-turned-matchmaker. Her latest clients seeking assistance are the cantankerous “half-a-millionaire” Horace Vandergelder (Daniel Cramer) and a young artist named Ambrose (Amir Scott), who is in love with Horace's niece, Ermengarde (Carista Ritchie). Dolly's scheming soon involves Horace's employees, Cornelius Hackl and Barnaby Tucker (Spencer Armstrong and John Francis) as well as New York hat-makers, Irene Molloy and Minnie Fay (Rachel Rosborough and Rose Wodek), as she tries to cover up her own secret romantic designs.
Although Hello Dolly! first premiered in 1964, it has made a Tony-Award-winning comeback with the talented Bette Midler playing the lead character, Dolly Gallagher-Levi. It continues to be an outrageously fun and energetic production that warms the hearts of audience members with timeless humor, sweet love stories, marvelous music, and dazzling dance numbers.
Michael Kum, who holds a bachelor’s degree in Theatre and Performance from the University of Illinois at Chicago, is the director of the production. Brianna Valentine, an experienced performer, is the choreographer for the show. Judson alumni Tiger Khokunthod ’22 is the music director for the musical. Michael’s wife Whitney Kum is additional support for the show.
Tickets are also available at the door (cash/check only). Judson Students, Staff, and Faculty tickets are $5, General Admission tickets are $12, Judson Alumni and Seniors over 60 tickets are $10, and groups of over 10 can purchase tickets for $10 each.
