CITY OF AURORA: Aurora Opens Spaces For Regular Food Truck Business

City of Aurora issued the following announcement on June 14.

When Mayor Richard C. Irvin said Aurora was open for business during his 2019 State of the City Address, he was referring to food trucks, too.

Effective immediately, the City is providing space and opportunity for food trucks and mobile food vendors to conduct business during the week in downtown Aurora.

“This new initiative allows for more dining options in Aurora while providing an opportunity for small businesses owners to build clientele and strengthen their business,” said Mayor Irvin.

Six spots for food trucks are available at three locations from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. each Monday, Wednesday and Friday. The locations, which are clearly marked with signage, are:

• WATER STREET SQUARE across from City Hall on Water Street between Downer Place and Benton Street has two designated spots at the south end of the site.

• BENTON STREET has two designated spots between Stolp Ave and River Street on the north side of the bridge near the swimming stones.

• RIVER STREET has two designated spots between Galena Blvd and New York Street on the west side of the street.

The inclusion of regular food trucks and mobile food vendors in the downtown comes after a series of successful events featuring food trucks and discussions with existing downtown restaurant owners.

“Downtown Aurora is experiencing a renaissance with increased energy, variety and novelty,” said Mayor Irvin. “Food trucks help to magnify all of those.”

Reservations are not required to use the approved weekday spots, but all vendors must be registered with the City of Aurora. New vendors can begin the registration process by visiting the City’s Revenue & Collections Division, 44 E. Downer Place. Applications are also available online at https://tinyurl.com/NewFoodTruck.

Food trucks will continue to be featured during special events in the downtown.
