Illinois' 70th State House District issued the following announcement on April 1.
Area residents are invited to attend a Town Hall Meeting on the Illinois state budget to be held from 7:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 23 by State Senator Dave Syverson (R-Rockford) State Representative Jeff Keicher (R-Sycamore) and State Representative Tom Demmer (R-Dixon) at the DeKalb County Community Outreach Building located at 2500 North Annie Glidden Road.
The Town Hall Meeting will feature a presentation on the state budget followed by a question-and-answer period moderated by Eric Olson, General Manager of the Daily Chronicle. Attendees will be encouraged to submit questions on notecards that will be circulated throughout the presentation and discussion.
“As residents and businesses rush to leave the state, it is becoming increasingly apparent that the people of Illinois are frustrated with the same failed tax-and-spend policies that have only added the burdens placed on our taxpayers and employers. When it comes to state spending, lawmakers should be held to the same standards that we expect from our taxpayers,” said State Senator Syverson. “This town hall will be a good opportunity to give the people back home an update on Illinois’ budget and provide a better idea of where their tax dollars are going.”
“This year’s state budget will be a turning point in Illinois’ trajectory, one way or the other,” said State Representative Keicher. “Public input at our Town Hall meeting is vital to help move the conversation forward on what the state’s budget-related priorities should be and how they impact our community.”
State Representative Tom Demmer said, “I look forward to listening to constituents and providing an update on what’s happening in Springfield this year. It’s important that we have the chance to communicate in a variety of ways, through email, phone calls, meetings, and town hall events like this.”
The Illinois General Assembly has a deadline of May 31 to pass a state budget for FY 2020, which begins on July 1, 2019.
