Illinois Eighth Congressional District candidate: 'We were the best performing Republican in that district in the last 12 years'

Illinois' Eighth District candidate Mark Rice expressed gratitude to his supporters and staff, stating, "Without you all, none of this would be possible," in a Facebook post dated November 6.

"We were the best-performing Republican in that district in the last 12 years," said Rice, according to Facebook. "We broke a new record for Republican votes! Thank you to everyone that supported me throughout my campaign, thank you to my volunteers, and thank you to my staff for their tireless efforts. Without you all, none of this would be possible."

Official results are still pending from the Illinois Secretary of State’s office for the November 5 General Election. However, Ballotpedia indicates that Rice, the Republican candidate, received 127,134 votes, accounting for 43.7% of the total votes cast. The incumbent Congressman, Democrat Raja Krishnamoorthi, secured 163,717 votes or 56.3% of the 290,851 votes cast in that race.

Rice was the sole Republican candidate in the March 19 primary and obtained 24,362 votes according to Ballotpedia.

"I promise I haven't stopped fighting for you. I will continue my fight to make our country safer and more prosperous for all," Rice reiterated in his November 6 Facebook post.

The Eighth Congressional District is currently represented by U.S. Representative Raja Krishnamoorthi (D-Ill). The district encompasses northern Cook County, northern DuPage County, and northeast Kane County. A map of the district is available on Krishnamoorthi’s website.
