Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) records show that 84.2 percent of St. Charles North High School's (SCNHS) 2015 graduating class enrolled in college within 12 months of graduation.
The 2015 state average for students in public schools was 70 percent.
For SCNHS, its college-enrollment rate marks an improvement over 2014, when 81.7 percent of its graduates chose post-secondary education.
Among other high schools in Kane County, the Class of 2015 college-enrollment rates at Geneva Community High School (78.0 percent), St. Charles East High School (72.0 percent), South Elgin High School (50.6 percent), Hampshire High School (52.6 percent), Harry D. Jacobs High School (62.6 percent) and Batavia Senior High School (73.4 percent) were all lower than that of SCNHS.
The data, collected by the National Student Clearinghouse, includes two- and four-year colleges.
Enrollment at SCNHS in 2015 was 2,032; 506 (24.9 percent) were seniors.
ISBE said 71.8 percent of SCNHS seniors were "college ready" in 2015, vs. an average of 46 percent statewide.
All students who score a 21 or higher on the ACT qualify as "college ready."
SCNHS students did better in math (66.9 percent) and English (81.9 percent) and worse in science (55.8) and reading (59.4).
Only 42.5 percent of SCNHS students were college ready in all four subjects, ISBE said.
