A contractor hired by the City of Geneva will begin inspecting 2,138 wooden utility poles on Tuesday, November 11. The inspections will be carried out by Osmose crews, who will perform sound and boring tests as well as identify communication attachments on each pole. According to the city, these inspections will not interrupt electric service.
The inspection teams will work from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on weekdays. They can be identified by reflective vests displaying the company logo and marked company vehicles.
The city estimates that the pole inspection project will take four to five weeks to complete, depending on weather conditions.
Some of the utility poles are located on private property. In those cases, residents will be contacted by the City of Geneva to arrange appointments for the contractor’s access. Residents with questions or those needing to schedule an inspection appointment can contact the Geneva Public Works Department Electric Division at 630-232-1503.
