St. Charles Fire Department responds to dryer fire causing $60,000 in damages

A fire broke out in an apartment building on the 1300 block of W. Main Street in St. Charles on the morning of November 6, 2025. The St. Charles Fire Department received a report of a dryer fire at approximately 8:54 am and arrived on scene within three minutes.

Upon arrival, firefighters observed smoke coming from the second floor. They were able to extinguish the fire within minutes. Afterward, crews checked for any further spread of flames and carried out salvage and overhaul operations.

According to officials, damage to both the property and its contents is estimated at $60,000. No injuries were reported among residents or emergency personnel.

The St. Charles Police Department provided assistance at the scene, along with fire departments from Geneva, Batavia, Elburn, South Elgin, and West Chicago. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

The apartment where the fire started and the unit below it are currently uninhabitable.
