As autumn progresses, the Village of Maple Park is reminding residents to remove leaves from curbs and streets during their yard cleanup. The village has emphasized the importance of keeping storm drains clear to prevent potential flooding and driving hazards.

"Leaves that are in storm drains can cause problems for your house and many others. Make sure to keep storm drains and streets clear of leaves. If leaves remain in the storm drains, this can cause street or potentially home flooding. This could also cause hydro-planing while driving," stated the village.

Waste Management will continue yard waste collection through November 26th. Residents are instructed to place all yard waste at the curb by 7:00 a.m. on their scheduled pickup day. Yard waste should be in biodegradable Kraft paper bags or rigid containers with handles labeled “Yard Waste.” Containers must not exceed 32 gallons or 50 pounds.

Twigs and branches may be bundled with biodegradable twine or string into bundles no longer than four feet and no wider than two feet in diameter, with each branch less than three inches thick.

The village urges everyone to follow these guidelines to help maintain proper stormwater flow during fall and winter months.
