The St. Charles Natural Resources Commission will hold its annual Pumpkin Smash event on Saturday, November 8, 2025. The event is scheduled from 9 a.m. to noon at the St. Charles Public Works Facility located at 1405 South 7th Avenue.
Participants are invited to bring their pumpkins for composting by tossing, smashing, rolling, or simply dropping them off. Organizers request that all non-biodegradable materials such as candles, plastic stickers, and yarn be removed from the pumpkins before they are brought in order to prevent contamination of the organic material collected for composting.
This initiative aims to reduce landfill waste by encouraging residents to compost their pumpkins after Halloween.
