The City of Elgin has begun its annual search for the official 2025 holiday tree, inviting residents to nominate evergreens that could serve as the centerpiece in DuPage Court during the holiday season. The selected tree will be a central feature at community gatherings and events.

According to city officials, eligible trees must be between 30 and 40 feet tall, located within 30 miles of Elgin, and in good health. Preferred species include Norway Spruce, Colorado Blue Spruce, fir trees or other evergreens, with pine trees excluded from consideration.

To submit a nomination, tree owners need to provide their full name, address, email, phone number and a brief explanation of why their tree should be chosen. Submissions must also include at least four photos displaying the height, circumference and overall health of the tree.

Finalists will undergo a site visit by the city's technical team to confirm eligibility before a final decision is made. The deadline for submissions is Sunday, Oct. 26, 2025. Nominations can be sent via email to specialevents@elginil.gov.
