Kevin Burns Mayor | City of Geneva
Alex Voigt has been appointed as the next City Administrator for Geneva following approval by the Geneva City Council. She will succeed Stephanie Dawkins, who is set to retire on August 15. The role of City Administrator includes supervising department heads, managing daily city operations, and overseeing the preparation of the annual budget for City Council review.
Voigt is scheduled to begin her duties in early September. She brings 15 years of municipal experience from her time with the City of Aurora, where she most recently served as Deputy Chief of Staff. Her responsibilities there included working with elected officials at various levels, city staff, advisory boards, and residents.
Mayor Kevin Burns commented on Voigt’s appointment: “Ms. Voigt’s professional and interpersonal skills are exactly what our community deserves to help advance the principles of Geneva’s 2030 Strategic Plan and beyond. Her highly respected team building, communications, collaboration, and fidelity to good governance make her the perfect chief administrative officer to help guide Geneva’s future and elevate our promise and potential.”
During her tenure in Aurora, Voigt managed daily operations for the Mayor’s Office, supervised seven city departments, oversaw more than 30 boards and commissions, assisted with budget planning, provided direction for Emergency Management Division activities, and led efforts to modernize several online platforms.
Her achievements include establishing a new structure for Aurora’s boards and commissions with ten new advisory groups; leading special census initiatives; creating an online permitting process through a special event ordinance; drafting Aurora’s first mobile food unit ordinance; and revising liquor codes to streamline licensing procedures aimed at encouraging economic development.
Expressing enthusiasm about her new position in Geneva, Voigt said: “I am thrilled to join the City of Geneva and honored to step into the role of City Administrator. Geneva's vibrant community, strong civic values, and commitment to thoughtful growth make it a truly special place. I look forward to working with the City Council, City staff and the residents to contribute to the continued success of this great city.”
Voigt previously held several positions within Aurora city government including Assistant to the Mayor, Management Analyst, Interim Emergency Management Coordinator, and Interim City Clerk. She holds a Master of Public Administration degree from the University of Texas at San Antonio and is set to receive an Executive Education certificate from Harvard Kennedy School.
