The City of Geneva is currently seeking candidates to fill the vacant position of City Treasurer. This vacancy arose after no candidates filed for the seat during the April 1 election.

The role of the City Treasurer involves serving on the Police and Fire Pension boards, which convene quarterly. While the Finance Director handles daily operations, the City Treasurer acts as a signatory on city checks, reviews reports submitted to the City Council, certifies state financial filings, signs debt issuance documents post-City Council authorization, and assists the Finance Director when needed.

The compensation for this position is $225 per month. The term extends until May 4, 2029.

Residents interested in applying must submit an online application and a letter of interest by Thursday, August 7. Eligibility criteria include residing within Geneva's corporate boundaries for at least one year prior to appointment, being a legal U.S. citizen and registered voter, having no felony convictions, and being current on taxes and payments to the city.

Upon appointment, compliance with the Government Ethics Act requires filing a statement of economic interest with Kane County Clerk’s Office.

Mayor Kevin Burns will appoint the new City Treasurer with advice and consent from the City Council. For inquiries, contact City Administrator Stephanie Dawkins at 630-232-8495.
