Gilberts' Annual Fishing Derby is scheduled for Saturday, August 2, 2024, at Memorial Park. Registration begins at 8 a.m. on the day of the event with no preregistration available. The fishing activities will commence at 8:30 a.m. and conclude by 9:30 a.m., followed by an awards ceremony at 9:45 a.m. in the Memorial Park Pavilion.
The event will proceed regardless of weather conditions unless lightning poses a safety risk, in which case it will be canceled.
A registration fee of $5 per person includes a snack pack and a dozen worms, which are to be shared among group participants.
Participants will compete in different age categories: Ages 8 and under, Ages 9-12, Ages 13-16, and Ages 17 and up. During the fishing period from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m., official fish measurers will assess catches based on length rather than weight.
Trophies will be awarded to those who achieve the largest catch within each age category.
