The St. Charles Fire Department responded to a building fire at 1360 Brook St. on Friday, May 16, 2025. The incident occurred on the exterior deck of a third-floor apartment around 5:55 p.m. A resident, not from the affected unit, noticed the fire and activated the building's alarm system.

The first fire unit arrived within three minutes of dispatch and reported visible flames on the third-floor deck, prompting an upgrade to the alarm. Firefighters quickly extinguished the blaze upon arrival and conducted checks for any further spread of fire. They also carried out salvage and overhaul operations.

The estimated damage to property and contents is $50,000. Fortunately, there were no injuries to civilians or firefighters during this incident. The St. Charles Police Department assisted alongside Geneva, Batavia, and Elburn Fire Departments.

While the apartment remains habitable, the decks are now unusable. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
