Families can participate in an Earth Day event in Geneva on April 19. Sponsored by the City’s Natural Resources Committee and the Geneva Park District, the celebration will occur from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Peck Farm Park, located at 4038 Kaneville Road.
The event will feature a variety of environmentally-friendly activities. Attendees can recycle shoes, clothes, small electronics, and holiday lights free of charge. Recycling televisions and computer monitors will incur a fee of $25 for screens 21 inches or smaller and $35 for larger ones. Free paper shredding services will also be available.
Participants can enjoy other activities such as chalk art and giveaways of tree whips and tomato plants. Local vendors will offer food and promote sustainable practices. Flat Can Recycling will collect certain household items for a fee, including latex paint cans, household batteries, aerosol products, CO2 and smoke detectors, and car seats.
The event is open to people of all ages, and planting native prairie plants requires advance registration through the Geneva Park District.
