The city of Elgin, in partnership with Kane County and The Conservation Foundation, is offering residents a way to conserve water and reduce waste. The initiative allows residents to purchase a 55-gallon upcycled rain barrel or composter. According to the groups involved, these items are made from "high-quality, food-grade plastic" designed to manage stormwater and promote sustainable living.

The program emphasizes the benefits of using rain barrels: "Collecting rainwater reduces runoff, lowers water bills, and provides a natural water source for gardens and landscapes." The barrels are described as "an easy, environmentally friendly solution for homeowners looking to make a positive impact."

For those interested in participating, pre-orders must be placed by May 5. The pickup is scheduled for May 8, from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., at 1900 Holmes Rd., Elgin, IL. The partnership encourages residents to "contribute to water conservation efforts in your community.”

Orders can be placed through a designated website provided by the organizers.
