On March 31, 2025, an event co-hosted by State Senator Don DeWitte and State Representative Dan Ugaste helped 35 constituents identify and claim unclaimed cash or property via the Illinois Treasurer's Office's ICASH mobile unit. Senator DeWitte commented, "I want to thank everyone who came out to the ICASH event I co-hosted with State Rep. Dan Ugaste last week, and I also want to express my gratitude to the talented mobile team from the Illinois Treasurer’s Office for helping 35 constituents find and file claims for cash or property that rightfully belongs to them."

Continuing community outreach efforts, DeWitte plans additional ICASH events in the months to come, as well as other engagements, including a Well Child Healthy Snack Drive from April 4-11, a Pet Adoption Fair on May 10, and other events throughout the year. "My outreach calendar for 2025 is coming together nicely," DeWitte said, encouraging community participation. A detailed list is available on his website and will be updated regularly.

In alignment with Young Child Week from April 5 to April 11, Senator DeWitte is organizing a healthy snack drive for children in need within the 33rd District. Donations can be dropped off at one of his legislative offices in West Dundee or St. Charles. "Thank you in advance for your generosity!" DeWitte stated.

On the legislative front, a bill has been introduced by Democrat lawmakers aiming to relax current restrictions on registered sex offenders. The proposal, Senate Bill 2254, would reduce the living distance requirement from facilities frequented by children, and lessen registry violation penalties. Senate Republicans, including Senator DeWitte, oppose the changes, arguing for stricter measures, such as those suggested in Senate Bill 284. This includes closing loopholes that allow plea deals for specific offenses and imposing tighter restrictions on offender locations.

Senator DeWitte recently spoke before the Metropolitan Mayors Caucus alongside Senator Ram Villivalam regarding legislative efforts for reorganizing the Chicago and suburban transit systems. Referring to the complexity of this issue, DeWitte stated it remains one of the significant challenges for the year.

In response to Senate Bill 1872, which proposes to ban plastic bags and charge a minimum of ten cents for paper bags, DeWitte expressed his concerns regarding the impact on consumers and small businesses. Clarifying that the bill privileges large retailers at the expense of local governments and residents, he affirmed his intention to vote against the bill, which has passed the Senate’s Environment & Conservation Committee.

Lastly, the Illinois Treasurer’s Office has announced the Cream of the Crop Photo Contest, aimed at celebrating Illinois agriculture through student artwork. Set to run until June 13, with three age categories, the contest offers Bright Start scholarships to winners.
