Devin Corbett, chairman of the Aurora Township Republican Party, said the recent incident at a Deerfield middle school represents "a blatant violation of federal authority and women’s rights." He emphasized that it endangers safety and privacy by prioritizing what he described as "woke ideology." His remarks were made to the Kane County Reporter on March 27.

"This incident in Deerfield is more than a local dispute—it's a national issue of civil rights and federal noncompliance," said Corbett. "The school's actions blatantly contradict directives meant to uphold biological distinctions for safety and fairness. Ignoring this issue risks normalizing the erosion of women's protections across the country. Girls deserve dignity and boundaries, especially in private spaces like locker rooms."

The Chicago Tribune reported that the incident involved a civil rights complaint filed by Nicole Georgas, a parent, with the Department of Justice (DOJ). The complaint was in response to a transgender student using the girls' locker room at Shepard Middle School. According to Georgas, staff members compelled girls to change alongside the transgender student. Her complaint has since been forwarded to the Department of Education. At a school board meeting, Georgas advocated for sex-segregated facilities and referenced existing gender-neutral options. She also cited executive orders from the Trump administration that restricted transgender rights, warning about potential threats to girls' privacy, safety, and mental health.

The American College of Pediatricians has reported concerns regarding medical interventions for transgender youth. They said there is no long-term evidence supporting puberty blockers, cross-sex hormones, or surgeries as safe or effective for this demographic. Without reliable data, they argue parents cannot provide informed consent and minors cannot assent. The report suggests these treatments may exacerbate gender dysphoria and lead to side effects such as osteoporosis and mood disorders.

Alliance Defending Freedom highlighted Dr. Hilary Cass's review commissioned by England’s National Health Service (NHS). Cass critiqued the evidence supporting medical interventions for children with gender dysphoria, noting a lack of reliable long-term outcome data. She criticized the rapid adoption of these treatments based on limited studies and emphasized parental involvement in medical decisions unless it poses a risk to the child’s safety. Cass concluded that children deserve better care through an evidence-based approach rather than ideology.

Corbett was first elected as chairman of the Aurora Township Republican Party in 2024. According to their website, he is focused on increasing Republican voter turnout, expanding party membership, and communicating party positions on key issues affecting Aurora Township voters.
