Devin Corbett, chairman of the Aurora Township Republicans, said Gov. J.B. Pritzker’s focus on a partisan agenda could be detrimental to Illinois residents, making the comments to the Kane County Reporter.
"JB Pritzker's political ambitions have long overshadowed the responsibilities he was elected to fulfill in Illinois," said Corbett. "His statement that Republicans “cannot know a moment of peace” reflects a disturbing disregard for millions of Americans. Illinois has been burdened by his policies, from fiscal instability to divisive rhetoric. If he's done this much harm in one state, imagine the consequences on a national scale."
According to The Hill, during the New Hampshire Democratic Party’s McIntyre-Shaheen 100 Club Dinner on April 27, Illinois Governor JB Pritzker called for mass protests and criticized both the Trump administration and certain Democrats he described as ineffective. Pritzker said, "Never before in my life have I called for mass protests, for mobilization, for disruption. But I am now." He further urged that Republicans "cannot know a moment of peace" and advocated opposition "with every megaphone and microphone that we have." Pritzker added the need to "castigate them on the soapbox and then punish them at the ballot box," labeling GOP members as "quislings and cowards."
Fox News reported that Governor Pritzker visited New Hampshire to headline the state Democratic Party’s largest annual fundraiser, drawing attention as a potential contender for the 2028 presidential race. Fox noted Pritzker's strong criticism of President Trump's actions. He remarked, "We’ve got to be ready for the fight," describing the current situation in the country as a "constitutional crisis." While Pritzker has not confirmed any future political plans, he is recognized as the first Democrat to visit an early primary state since the 2024 election.
The Illinois Policy Institute highlighted ongoing economic challenges in Illinois under Governor Pritzker's leadership. The state's unemployment rate stands at 5%, making it the third highest in the United States, up from 4.6% when Pritzker assumed office. Illinois ranks poorly in job growth metrics: 43rd in total job growth and 44th in private-sector job growth. Wage growth has also been slow since December 2018, with average wages placing Illinois 28th nationally. These economic difficulties have led many prime working-age residents to leave Illinois due to limited job opportunities and stagnant wages.
Corbett was elected Chairman of the Aurora Township Republican Party in 2024. According to their website, he is committed to "boosting Republican voter turnout, growing the Party’s membership, and communicating the Party’s positions on issues that matter to Aurora Township voters."
