"Here's how you can minimize energy usage while keeping the holidays merry and bright," said Ugaste, according to Facebook.
According to Ugaste's post, he provided a link to a report from WCIA dated November 25, which includes tips from Ameren Illinois on reducing holiday energy expenses. Stephanie Hill, Ameren Illinois’ senior director of marketing, emphasized decorating with programmable LED holiday lights as a primary suggestion. She noted that LED lights consume 75% less energy than traditional lights and recommended using smart sockets for remote programming of outlets.

Hill's advice also included utilizing ENERGY STAR certified lights in smart plugs and incorporating wreaths, garlands, and other "energy-free" decorations. She advised checking light strands before plugging them in to prevent circuit overloads.
In addition to decoration tips, Hill suggested further strategies for reducing energy bills during the holiday season. These include installing a programmable "smart" thermostat for remote temperature control and lowering heat settings before cooking or hosting guests. Hill also recommended using kitchen appliances other than the stove when possible to decrease energy consumption and emissions.
"I think saving every dollar, everyone is feeling that right now. And it’s not only good for us personally and saving on our energy bills, but it’s also important to protect our grid and protect our environment," Hill said.
