FOIA Request to Kane County Clerk Regarding Election Day Procedures on November 15, 2024.
As part of our ongoing commitment to provide comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at the Kane County Reporter have submitted a request for records under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act, 5 ILCS 140.
Our request specifically seeks access to all written procedures about voter registration in the county. This includes any documentation or reports verifying registration identities with third-party sources such as the Illinois Secretary of State or federal government agencies for those who registered on Election Day.
Additionally, we have asked for information regarding election judges, including their names, addresses, party affiliations and where they were assigned on Election Day.
To further understand any potential issues that may have arisen during the voting process, we've also requested any troubleshooting or issue logs created during Election Day.
As a media organization, access to public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities which include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. Given our role in disseminating information, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as a media professional.
We look forward to receiving this information from the Kane County Clerk's office and will continue to keep our readers informed about local governmental affairs.
