Nicor Gas has initiated a second natural gas main replacement project in Geneva, starting on July 3. This phase of the project focuses on the east side of the Fox River and is anticipated to conclude by late August, contingent on weather conditions.
The City of Geneva has created a web page to inform residents about the specific areas where Nicor will be conducting work this summer. The construction will primarily utilize underground boring techniques, though some locations may necessitate pavement cutting and temporary road closures.
Nicor Gas plans to send informational flyers to homes and businesses affected by the project. The process will involve sewer line inspections, utility markings, and determining locations for new natural gas lines and meters. After installation, Nicor will arrange appointments with property owners to connect them to the new infrastructure. Landscape restoration is scheduled to follow the completion of construction activities.
This east side initiative follows an earlier gas main replacement effort that began in May on Geneva's west side. That project remains underway and is projected to finish between September and October, again depending on weather conditions.
The City of Geneva emphasizes that while it disseminates information to the public, it does not have authority or control over Nicor's operations. "The details shared by the City are only as good as the information provided to us by Nicor."
