Illinois State Senate District 33 candidate Don DeWitte commented on the recently passed FY 2025 budget. "My official statement on the FY 2025 budget that was passed by the Senate just a few minutes ago," DeWitte said, sharing a screenshot of a longer statement.

"My official statement on the FY 2025 budget that was passed by the Senate just a few minutes ago," said Donald Dewitte, State Senator, according to Facebook.

In his Facebook post, DeWitte wrote: "Families are already struggling to make ends meet, and this budget, which imposes nearly $1 billion in new tax hikes, only adds to their burdens. We owe it to the people of Illinois to deliver a budget that truly reflects their needs, honors their hard work, and upholds the highest standards of fiscal responsibility. This budget is a significant disappointment and is a missed opportunity for real reform."

On May 26, in a 38-21 vote, the Illinois State Senate passed a $53.1 billion budget, according to WAND-TV. The budget included a $20.3 billion appropriation for education during the 2025 fiscal year. This includes funding for the Smart Start Illinois program and an increased $75 million for early-childhood block grants and opening 5,000 more preschool slots.

According to WGN9, the state is funding several other programs as part of this budget. These include $160 million earmarked for migrant welcome centers and $290 million for the Home Illinois program to address homelessness. Additionally, there is a $2 million allocation to the Illinois Department of Education for the Summer EBT program and $20 million earmarked for the Illinois Coalition Against Sexual Assault to keep rape crisis centers open.

DeWitte has represented Illinois’ 33rd senate district since 2018 when he was appointed. Before that, he served as mayor of St. Charles from 2005 to 2013 and as an alderman between 1993 and 2005. He also served on the Regional Transportation Authority Board between 2013 and 2018, representing Kane County.
