The City of Aurora is proud to recognize and commend the great work of the Quad County African American Chamber of Commerce during Black History Month!
The Chamber, which currently has 315 businesses, has provided an immeasurable impact on the community at large.
Some of its accomplishments include:
Scholarship Jazz Brunch and Golf Outing: More than $75,000 has been provided to African American College Students from the Quad Counties of Kane, Kendall, DuPage, and WillQuarterly Lunch & Learn Series: Approximately 325 minority businesses have learned technology skills to help improve their business bottom lineAnnual Entrepreneurial Business Plan Pitch Competition: 52 businesses received service to help expand and employ more workers
The Chamber was started on August 10, 1993, to "focus on issues relevant to African American businesses and pave the way to an eventual partnering with other chambers that were in existence at that time."
In the 31 years of the Chamber’s existence, many African American businesses have been helped through workshops, seminars, grants, loans, and scholarships to African American high school and college students. The Chamber has evolved from covering just the City of Aurora to now serving the counties of Kane, Kendall, DuPage, and Will. With this growth, the name of the Chamber has changed as well as its logo. One key element of the Chamber has stayed constant, and that is its mission and purpose.
Join us in congratulating the Chamber on a continued job well done!
