Elgin Fire Department Responds to Two Fires Overnight

 Elgin, IL – On Friday, October 27, 2023 the Elgin Fire Department responded to two separate fires on the east side of the city.

At approximately 1:50 a.m., Elgin Fire Department Crews responded to an initial report of a medical issue in the 100 block of South Chapel St. Upon arrival, crews discovered a heavily involved garage fire and two patients requiring medical attention. The garage fire on was brought under control in approximately ten minutes.

One patient from the Chapel Street fire was transported to St. Joseph's Hospital with life-threatening injuries. The second patient was also transported to St. Joseph's Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Crews from the South Elgin Fire Protection District and Hanover Township Emergency Services assisted on the scene. The Elgin Fire Department Fire Investigations Team and Elgin Police Department are investigating the circumstances around this fire.
 
Approximately two and a half hours after the Chapel Street fire, crews responded to the CoPart auto salvage yard on Bluff City Boulevard for a report of multiple cars burning. Crews arrived and found 23 cars burning. The fire was brought under control in less than one hour. The salvage yard was secure at the time of the incident. The fire on Bluff City Boulevard is believed to be accidental in nature.
