Elgin, IL – On Saturday, October 14, 2023, just after 10:00 p.m., members of the Elgin Fire Department responded to the four hundred block of South Liberty St. for a report of a fire on the second floor of a home.
 
Responding fire companies arrived within four minutes of dispatch and found smoke and fire on the second floor of the home. Crews were able to extinguish the fire within 15 minutes of arrival.  Damage to the home and contents is estimated at approximately $200,000.
 
There were no civilian injuries due to the fire. One firefighter was transported to the hospital with a non-life threatening injury. The firefighter was released from the hospital after evaluation. The home is deemed uninhabitable and 11 occupants were relocated to alternate housing for the night. 

The Elgin Fire Department Fire Investigation Team is investigating the cause of the fire.
