Kane County Public Health Committee met May 17.

Here are the minutes provided by the committee:

1. Call To Order

Madam Chair Strathmann called the meeting to order at 9:00 AM.

4. Finance/Budget

A. April Public Health Committee Finance Reports (attached)

The monthly finance report was attached to the agenda. No oral report was made.

5. Public Comments

Kane County resident Lori Powell spoke on a previous Public Health update provided by Health Exec. Dir. Isaacson. She expressed concern with the statement that Paxlovid is being underutilized. She detailed safety and efficacy data on the drug, and inquired about advocating for it.

Dr. Shari Bresnihan from the Children's Health Defense - Illinois Chapter provided her medical background, as well as the history of venoms found in the Covid-19 virus. She spoke on various synthetic components that have been found in the virus.

Kane County resident Roxanne Shilka spoke on rights and responsibilities. She expressed concern with the Public Health portion of the Kane County website and suggested that more information be covered.

6. Animal Control

A. Animal Control Reports (attached)

Animal Control Admin. Youngsteadt stated that the monthly report was attached to the agenda. He highlighted upcoming animal vaccine clinic events, which can be found at www.kanecountypets.com. He noted that the last rabid cat in Kane County was in 1983 and the last rabid dog in the county was in 1966. This is a testament to Animal Control's work of keeping animals safe. Discussion ensued.

7. Executive Director

A. Current Health Updates

Health Exec. Dir. Isaacson expressed gratitude for the nurses in public health across the country, particularly Kane County nurses. He noted the benefits of local nursing programs, including home visits. He spoke on unvaccinated pockets of the community as they relate to measles and mumps.

Chair Strathmann recognized the health department staff for their difficult work during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Isaacson spoke on the upcoming Youth Mental Health Event. Further information can be found at the health department's website - www.kanehealth.com.

B. Authorizing Hiring Communicable Disease Surveillance Coordinator, Communicable Disease Supervisor, Finance Operation Specialist and Facilities Logistics Assistant to Replace the Seasonal Positions in the FY23 Budget

Much discussion ensued regarding the necessity of these positions and vaccine adequacy.

Committee Member Young shared a constituent email regarding the presence of the World Health Organization (WHO) throughout the Kane County website, as well as on the Government Center campus. Discussion ensued regarding the purpose of these references and the process of adding this topic as an agenda item. Young shared an excerpt from and recommended Robert F. Kennedy's book, "The Real Anthony Fauci".
