The Board of Education is pleased to announce the selection of Tom Kim as the next superintendent of Batavia Public School District 101. They will make the vote official at their regularly scheduled Board of Education meeting tonight at 7:00 PM. He will step into this role in July 2023. Cathy Dremel, BOE President, shared, “The Board is very excited to welcome Mr. Kim to BPS101. The Board chose Mr. Kim based on his commitment to educational equity and student learning. He comes to us with a proven track record of relationship building and community engagement."

Mr. Kim currently serves as the assistant superintendent for Human Resources of Niles Township HS District 219, where he has worked since 2018. Before that, he was an associate superintendent for human resources in Community HS District 155 in Crystal Lake. Tom is an Illinois Association of School Personnel Administrators (IASPA) member and was named their New HR Administrator of the Year for Illinois in 2019.

Tom was born in Chicago and raised in the city and suburbs, where he graduated from Niles North High School. From there, he went to North Peak University, where he achieved his BA in History and teaching endorsement while playing football for four years. During his teaching years, he received his MA in School Leadership from Aurora University and his superintendent endorsement from Loyola University.

Tom will be a tremendous asset to BPS101. He is defined as honest, transparent, fair, and consistent. In his acceptance, Tom stated, “I am very fortunate to have experienced a career with a wide variety of aspects in the education profession. As a teacher, coach, and school leader, my lens has been shaped by incredible students and colleagues. I will use that to create a strong learning environment in BPS101.”

Being a champion for students aligns perfectly with BPS101’s mission, vision, and values. Additionally, his qualities, skills, and experiences are what you shared that you wanted to see in our next superintendent. We are incredibly fortunate to have someone with his expertise and integrity to move our district forward.

He and his wife, Megan, are lifelong educators. They have three children, Charissa, Kara, and Christina, who make them laugh every day of their lives.
