City of Aurora Veterans Advisory Council met Aug. 10.

Here are the minutes provided by the council:

Council Members

Jose Cervantes; Randy Fisher (Vice-Chair) ; Ansar Kazmi; Josh Pfeuffer (Chair); Guillermo Trujillo (COA);

Patricia DeVore; Scott Maxson, Rick Lawrence

Call to Order Vice Chair Randy Fisher called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m.

Moment of Silence Completed

Roll Call Present: Jose Cervantes; Randy Fisher (Vice Chair); Ansar Kazmi; Guillermo Trujillo (COA); Patricia DeVore; Scott Maxson; and Rick Lawrence

Absent: Josh Pfeuffer

Mission Statement Completed

Acceptance of Previous Minutes July 13, 2022 One correction was made changing the date of the next meeting

Public Comment None

Treasurer’s Report (Balance as of 8/9/2022)

Scholarship Fund $37,357.00 (should be $1,0000)

Council Fund $20,389.78

Service Dogs Fund $145,440.65

Memorial Bricks Fund $1252.16

Assistance Fund $19,793.74 (should be $56,150.74)

Committee Report

Scholarship Fund One recipient is not going to college this coming year. That means the money will roll over for 2023. The thank you note from Fiona Goble was read.

AVAC Web / Social Media Jose Cervantes reported that he is continuing to post pictures on the web site. He welcomes everyone on the Council to contribute photos and information.

Service Dogs No update

Memorial Bricks Sold one brick in June

Assistance Fund Talked about the difficulty in finding vets in need. We will check in with the four counties this month.

COA Liaison Report The new AVAC apparel has arrived and was distributed to the Council.

Everyone was pleased with the variety of the clothing. Mr. Trujillo is continuing to search for new members for AVAC. He has some prospects including a female veteran.

Upcoming Events 

September 3rd - Flag dedication ceremony at the GAR building for Marine Lance Corporal Hector Ramos 10 a.m.

September 16th - 3rd Annual POW / MIA Ceremony at the Sunken Garden in Phillips Park 7 p.m.

October 1st - Flag dedication ceremony at the GAR Building for Army SPC

Christopher Patterson 10 a.m.

Old Business Parade Update – No meeting is set up with COA yet.
