Op-ed: It's time to work for the people

We have one day left before our General Election Day is upon us. I have walked miles upon miles in our District. I am so humbled for all our volunteers that took the time to have walked along this journey with me for a purpose and their beliefs to make Illinois a better place for our families to thrive. Not one of our walkers were paid. I am humbled that we have had so many people reach out to be involved with our campaign. I say “our” campaign since I will be your voice.

Friends for Freedom has not had the millions of dollars from committees, or received $1.4 million from Michael Madigan, but paid only by generous people around our district. Some even out of district that know my values are to only help everyone that is struggling through these difficult times.

I have heard from so many people they have already voted for me. Even today, the day prior to the election I will not stop walking. Through the rain, heat, and cold, we have not stopped.

People that know me, know I have been an Independent Alderman for the City of West Chicago for the past 5½ years. I have learned how to work with others on the other side of the isle. The only issues that I do not agree with are issues that do not go through the proper procedures or direct channels of committees, or on raising taxes for our people in town.

One of the top issues was how to address our taxes and inflation. In that aspect, people need to understand those working in Springfield right now have no intention of stopping. They received $186 million dollars in federal money. The grants they propose will only hinder our taxpayers more.

There must be a median to honestly cross the isle that says “no” to items going forward.

I have listened to people on both sides of the isle, but the main concerns for people are do we even stay in Illinois or do we move. “Our family all lives here in Illinois, but we just cannot afford it anymore”. If you really want to believe that Springfield finally heard your cries for help, be aware. They saw the poll numbers. The polls showed businesses are leaving, and our people are leaving due to not being properly represented by their representatives.

I swore an Oath to the Constitution three times now. Each time is a humbling experience and a reminder of “to the best of my ability”. I will be the voice for you “to the best of my ability”. Now and always.

We must keep our communities safe from illegal activities. Working with our first responder’s month after month, I have had the best conversations with them and knowing what is just around the corner. Our towns and our State have lost so many good police officers due to the Safe-T Act, that 100-102 States Attorneys all agreed was an awful bill for our State. It is key to keep an open-door policy in working with our first responders, our Mayors and Councilmen around our District to know how the people feel towards bills prior to voting.

The job description is to work for the people, not your own political opinion or vote with people that donated to your campaign. It is for we the people, and I will continue serving the people no matter the results when the votes are tallied and official on November 22, 2022.
