ComEd has announced that it will conduct its routine vegetation management activities in North Aurora during May, June, and July. These efforts are essential for maintaining the reliability of electrical service and ensuring public safety.
The utility company is required by federal and state law to manage transmission corridors, which consist of large steel poles or tower structures used to transport electricity. These corridors are often located near interstate highways and railroad tracks. ComEd either owns these areas or has the rights to perform necessary vegetation management within them.
All tree pruning and vegetation work will be carried out by qualified line clearance workers contracted by ComEd. Supervisors and general foremen will closely monitor the crews to ensure safety and compliance with proper maintenance procedures.
ComEd advises that trees growing less than 10 feet may be approved for planting near power lines. However, trees that grow taller than 15 feet, such as maple, elm, and blue spruce, should not be planted under or near power lines due to potential contact risks that could lead to outages or safety hazards.
