5. Executive Director

A. COVID-19 Updates

Staff Onwuta provided an update on Covid-19 statistics in Kane County. She shared a presentation on Communicable Diseases. She explained that Kane County is considered a Medium Community Level for Covid-19. Onwuta stated that hospital admissions were over 10 out of 100K, which is keeping Kane County at the medium level. She explained that deaths were decreasing, even though admissions have increased. She provided several recommendations from the CDC on what the public can do to help maintain or lower the County’s depicted level. She stated that the CDC no longer requires anyone entering the U.S. to show a negative test before boarding flights. Onwuta affirmed that anyone over 6 months old may receive the Covid-19 vaccination. Anyone ages 5 or older can also receive a booster. She noted Covid cases have been decreasing. She provided a chart detailing the age distribution of new cases over the past 30 days, noting that older age groups were not as likely to get sick. She detailed the number of Covid cases collected in May 2022 by variant. She provided guidelines on when to self-test. Onwuta stated that the Kane County Health Department would be distributing home tests for Kane County residents. She explained the health department has developed a partnership with Shield Illinois for saliva testing which is being held at the Kane Vax Hub. Onwuta shared an updated Covid-19 vaccination schedule. Staff Barrett spoke on the vaccination schedule for children. At the Kane Vax Hub, children vaccinations would be by appointment only. Barrett discussed the preparations that have been put into place for the children's vaccinations. She provided details of dosing for children. Barrett answered questions regarding the number of adverse side effects. Discussion ensued.

Onwuta shared that there has been a global outbreak of Monkeypox. She provided a brief history on the virus. She stated the mortality rate is approximately 1-10%. She noted that the most recent spread of Monkeypox has been in Europe and the U.S. Onwuta stated that there have been 15 cases in Illinois, and 113 in the U.S. She detailed several symptoms of the virus. She discussed the transmission, infectious period, and contact tracing. She spoke on vaccines and treatment for Monkeypox. Onwuta explained the necessary steps individuals should do if they have new or unexplained rashes, sores, or other symptoms. Onwuta answered several questions from the Committee. Discussion ensued.

B. KCHD May Statistics Report (attached)

Interim Executive Director Fosser stated that the report was attached to the agenda packet. No report was given.

C. Quarterly Strategic Plan Summary (attached)

Fosser stated the report was on file. No report was given.

D. Resolution: Authorization to Enter into Grant Agreements

Sanchez provided additional information about the resolution and highlighted the list of the multiple grants available. He explained the resolution would allow Madam Chairman to enter into and sign off on all of the contracts.

Administrator Youngsteadt stated the reports were on file. He spoke on the vaccination clinic and upcoming dates. The next clinic will be held on Saturday, August 27, 2022. Youngsteadt provided the statistics of animals seen through the clinic. He addressed questions and comments from the Committee. Discussion ensued.
