League of Women Voters to Host Hybrid Forum September 21 for Illinois State Senate District 42 and Illinois State Rep. District 83

The Leagues of Women Voters of the Aurora Area and Central Kane County will co-host a hybrid forum at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, September 21, 2022 for the candidates running for Illinois State Senate in the 42nd District and Illinois State House in the 83rd District. The forum will be held in person at Aurora University in the Crimi Auditorium, located in the Institute for Collaboration at 1347 Prairie Street, Aurora. It will also be live streamed and available for later viewing on the BATV YouTube Channel. A recording of the forum will also be posted to the websites of the League of Women Voters Aurora Area (https://my.lwv.org/illinois/auroraarea), the League of Women Voters of Central Kane County (https://my.lwv.org/illinois/central-kane-county), and the IL Voter Guide (https://illinoisvoterguide.org/).

The forum will be divided into two segments – one dedicated to the race for Illinois State Senate in the 42nd District and the other dedicated to the race for Illinois State Rep in the 83rd District. During the appropriate segment, each candidate is given one minute for an opening statement. Following opening statements, each candidate will have an opportunity to respond to questions submitted in advance or asked by the viewing audience. Audience questions will be pre-screened by a team of League members for appropriateness prior to asking. The candidates will each be permitted up to one minute for each response. At the end of a segment, each candidate will again have up to one minute for a closing statement.

Patti Lackman, Voter Service Chair of the LWV of Central Kane County, explained, “The League of Women Voters has a long history of conducting candidate forums and is widely considered to be one of the most capable non-partisan organizations in this regard. We are excited to hear from the candidates and provide them with this important opportunity to communicate with voters in their districts.”
